Objectives

After completing Module 7, you will be able to:

• Discuss basic screening and assessment tools for alcohol abuse and violence against women.
• Be familiar with general screening questions and possible "statements of support."
• Understand and discuss the components in assessing for domestic violence in alcohol treatment programs, and in assessing for alcohol abuse in domestic violence programs (for men and women).
• Discuss the issue of psychiatric comorbidities and dual diagnosis relative to alcohol and abuse assessment.
• Develop a sample safety plan and discuss possible steps a client can take during a violent incident at home, at work, or at school.
